I’m Caterina Findsen, founder of Koru Self Development and The Waikato Reiki Centre in Hamilton, New Zealand.
My work brings together Reiki, teaching, Calm Birthing and clinical hypnotherapy. I have been a professional Reiki practitioner since 2007 and a Reiki teacher since 2013, supporting students and clients in their ongoing learning and personal development.
Reiki has been a central part of my professional life for many years. Through my practice and teaching, I aim to preserve the foundations of Reiki while supporting students to develop their understanding and confidence in their own practice.
I teach Usui/Takata, Traditional Japanese Reiki, Karuna Reiki and Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki. I have taught more than 250 students and established regular Reiki Share Groups to encourage continued practice, connection and learning.
I am a Reiki NZ Accredited Reiki Practitioner (ARP), and I value professional ethics, continued learning and respect for the traditions in which I have trained.
My interest in supporting women and their partners through birth led me to train in HypnoBirthing™ in 2010. I subsequently developed my own approach, Calm Birthing with Hypnobirthing Techniques, combining childbirth education, breathing, relaxation, mindset and hypnobirthing techniques.
My aim is to help expectant parents feel informed, prepared and confident as they approach their birth journey.
I trained in clinical hypnotherapy in 2009, progressing to Senior Clinical Hypnotherapist level. My work focuses on supporting people who want to make meaningful changes, using an individualised and practical approach.
Whether I am teaching Reiki, preparing parents for birth or working with a hypnotherapy client, I believe in creating a supportive, welcoming environment where people feel respected and encouraged to develop their own confidence and understanding.

I am a Reiki NZ Accredited Reiki Practitioner (ARP), reflecting my commitment to professional practice, ethical standards and ongoing learning.
I have been practising Reiki professionally since 2007 and teaching Reiki since 2013. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with many people through individual Reiki sessions and of teaching hundreds of students across the different levels of Reiki.
I founded the Waikato Reiki Centre at Koru Self Development to provide a dedicated place in Hamilton for people to experience Reiki, learn Reiki and continue their connection with the practice. What began as a Reiki practice has grown into a community of students and practitioners, with Reiki teaching, individual sessions and regular Reiki Share Groups, forming an important part of my work.
I am trained in Usui Reiki – Takata lineage to Reiki Master Teacher level and I have also completed advanced Reiki training in traditional Japanese Reiki with Frans Steine, Usui/ Holy Fire®III Reiki Master Teacher and Karuna Reiki® Master Teacher levels with William Lee Rand from The International Centre for Reiki Training in USA.
My Reiki practice is based in Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki, incorporating the traditional Usui lineage alongside my ongoing study and exploration of Japanese Reiki teachings.
I believe that Reiki continues to evolve as we deepen our understanding and experience, while the foundations and principles of the practice remain important.
I chose to undertake Reiki NZ accreditation because, after many years of practising and teaching Reiki, I wanted to formally demonstrate my commitment to professional standards, ethical practice and ongoing learning. For me, accreditation is another part of an ongoing commitment to personal development, integrity and providing a respectful and supportive Reiki experience. It is not about being better than another practitioner, but about being accountable for the way I practise professionally.
For me, Reiki is not about making promises or telling someone what their experience should be. A Reiki session provides a quiet, supportive space in which a person can relax, receive and experience Reiki for themselves. I work respectfully and within the boundaries of my training and professional practice, with the client’s comfort, choice and wellbeing at the centre of the session.
The Reiki Precepts are also an important part of my ongoing Reiki practice. I see Reiki as much more than something we offer to others; it is an ongoing practice of self-awareness, personal development, integrity and returning to what is true and authentic for ourselves.
My Reiki practice is based in Hamilton, where I offer individual Reiki sessions from my clinic. I also teach Reiki courses throughout the year and facilitate monthly Reiki Share Groups, providing opportunities for students and practitioners to continue their connection with Reiki beyond their initial training.
I am actively involved with Reiki NZ Inc, including my role as Waikato Representative and, together with Brian Findsen, as an editor of Reiki News. Reiki NZ is the national professional organisation connecting Reiki practitioners and teachers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. www.reiki.org.nz/ I am also a founding member of Reiki Waikato, which was created as a regional group with a global focus, aiming to create and facilitate events in the Waikato for all Reiki practitioners to gather together to learn and grow.”
Whether you are completely new to Reiki or have been practising for many years, my intention is to provide a welcoming, respectful and grounded experience, with space for each person to have their own relationship with Reiki.
Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki combines the foundations of the Usui Reiki tradition with a contemporary evolution of Reiki practice. The word Holy in Holy Fire® Reiki means “to make whole” and is not intended to imply any particular religion or religious belief.

You don’t have to carry someone else’s birth story into your own.
I am saddened by how many women approach childbirth already frightened by the stories they have heard from friends, family or even from previous births. Those experiences may be completely real and valid for the women who lived them — but every birth is different, and your story has yet to be written.
This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about Calm Birthing with Hypnobirthing Techniques.
As part of the transformational therapies I offer, I want mothers to have practical tools they can take with them into birth — tools to help them work with fear and anxiety, release tension, use their breathing effectively, develop confidence and feel more prepared for the experience ahead.
These aren’t simply techniques for the day your baby is born. They are life skills. Learning how to calm your mind, regulate your breathing, work with your thoughts and relax your body can give you valuable tools that can continue to serve you throughout motherhood and life.
My aim is not to promise you a particular type of birth. Birth cannot be completely controlled, and every birth is unique. Instead, I want you to feel informed, prepared and equipped with practical skills for your own birth journey, whatever that journey may bring.
I trained in HypnoBirthing® – The Mongan Method in 2010. After several years of teaching and working with expectant mothers and couples, I developed my own comprehensive programme in 2012, Calm Birthing with Hypnobirthing Techniques.
My programme combines childbirth education with practical hypnobirthing techniques such as breathing, deep relaxation, visualisation, positive mindset, self-hypnosis, and preparation for birth. It has evolved from my years of experience and is designed to give parents practical knowledge and tools rather than simply information about what might happen during childbirth.
For me, calm birthing doesn’t mean expecting birth to be perfect or believing that you can control every part of it. It means going into your birth with greater understanding, preparation and confidence, and having tools you can draw on when you need them.
I offer private Calm Birthing and childbirth education in Hamilton, New Zealand, for mothers and couples who would like personalised support as they prepare for their baby’s birth.
I also offer a comprehensive online Calm Birthing course, making my birth preparation programme available to mothers and couples wherever they are in the world. The online programme allows you to learn in your own time and revisit the techniques throughout your pregnancy.
Whether you are looking for an online hypnobirthing course, a calm birth course, practical birth preparation, or personalised childbirth education, my intention is the same: to help you feel prepared rather than frightened, equipped rather than overwhelmed, and confident in your ability to meet your own birth journey.
If you have experienced a difficult, frightening or traumatic birth before, you may approach another pregnancy with very real concerns about what might happen next.
You don’t have to simply put that experience behind you and hope that the next birth will be different.
Calm Birthing can give you an opportunity to learn new techniques, explore your thoughts and fears around birth, and prepare for your next birth from a different place. Your previous birth is part of your story, but it does not have to determine the story of your next one.
Ultimately, this is what I want my Calm Birthing courses to give you: a toolbox you can keep.
The breathing, relaxation, visualisation, mindset and self-regulation skills you learn for birth can become useful long after your baby arrives — through the demands of motherhood, stressful moments, everyday life and whatever comes next.
Prepare for birth. Build your confidence. Take the tools with you for life.
Caterina is a trained and registered practitioner in Sheila Granger’s Virtual Gastric Band technique, a hypnotherapy-based approach designed to support people in making positive changes to their eating habits and relationship with food.
The programme can be used as a standalone approach or as additional support for those who have used weight-loss injections and wish to focus on maintaining healthy habits as they move forward. The approach is individual, recognising that each person’s circumstances and goals are different.

As part of my transformational therapy toolbox, I love using clinical hypnotherapy to help people make positive and lasting changes in their lives — whether the change they are looking for is big or small.
I trained to Senior Clinical Hypnotherapist level in 2009 with Grant Boddington, formerly Director of Hypnosis NZ and currently Director of Hypnotherapy New Zealand.
Over the years, I have found hypnotherapy to be a practical and empowering way to work with the thoughts, behaviours and patterns that can sometimes get in the way of the changes we want to make. It can be helpful for building confidence, reducing stress, improving sleep, changing unwanted habits, managing fears and working towards personal goals.
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw from my wider transformational therapy toolbox and tailor my sessions to the individual and what they want to achieve. Alongside hypnotherapy, I may incorporate breathing techniques and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) where appropriate.
An important part of my approach is that lasting change starts with you. You need to be motivated and ready to make the change; my role is to provide the tools, guidance and support to help you make that change and carry it forward into your everyday life.
I generally see clients face-to-face at my clinic in Hamilton, New Zealand, and I also offer online clinical hypnotherapy sessions via Zoom, so you can work with me from wherever you are.
If there is something you would like to change, improve or move forward with, clinical hypnotherapy may be a valuable tool to help you get there.
